I'm one of those electrical engineers that finds irate opposition if I say speakers, and pickups for that matter, are one of the biggest scam products in the equipment industry. In that, what I mean is with a modified tone stack or an EQ plugged into your amp's loop, you can achieve the sound of virtually any speaker you desire. What then becomes of concern is how big is the magnet, what is the wattage, *and how well do they handle the top and bottom of the curve when you put significant volume through them.* Obviously, cloning the response curve through circuit architecture can't do jack shit to fix a speaker that distorts in those bandwidth ranges when you crank up the volume, and there is of course a "color" to a speaker that none of that will get rid of. I have a mess of Celestion Rocket 50's when they licensed the design to Crate and were manufactured under SLM. *One of the worst speakers I've ever heard! lol* After I beat the shit out of them trying to blow them though, it was a whole other animal and the break-in effect dramatically improved performnace. To this day though, countless owners hate them and have never broken them in. I just got 4 of them in a 30 year old cabinet and I couldn't put my bass passed 3 at medium volume. About 10 days later though, I could dime it. The pickup matter, well, it's not as much of a tangled web to break down and validate. Just as every expensive speaker is actually made for under $10 a piece, it's typical even $100 humbuckers with 1st world labor still don't break the $10 point either. While many hate actives, the right active circuit results in the pickup still sounding 100% passive, and you can completely revoice them with RC filters that can become incredibly elaborate. The pickup scam is definitely much worse than the speakers, but still relative, if the speaker has a nice fat magnet on it and decent wattage, you can retone it to whatever you desire.

I wonder if there is a filter to build to add to the chain before the computer interface channels so the negative effect doesn’t or occur at all, then 48 would be fine

Good lord, you are good at this. Breaking things down to the level of a beginner, and knowing what it is that a beginner will need to know, is a genuinely rare skill and it takes a unique person to do it well, while still knowing how to work at a high level. It's incredibly easy to forget all the thousands of baby steps it took to get to a high level of skill; most of the time, forgetting those steps is actually vital to becoming good at something, because those steps take up valuable space in our minds, space that is better filled with our workflow, new ideas, advanced techniques, etc, and we rely on muscle memory for the basics. Being a good teacher is so much more than just being good at the subject you want to teach. You are an astoundingly clear teacher.

so if the original mules were recorded at 24b 28Khz and you drag them into protools they then have to be upscaled to work in a 24b 96k session yes. So its not as straight forward as your pointing out. Track at 96Khz and then mix at 96Khz would obviously be the best way but you didn't mention the original tracks bit rate or sampling Freq

Been using one of these at Green Room rehearsal studio in Witney and it’s my favourite amp there. I assumed it was a valve amp until the owner told me it’s solid state. I tend to max the bass and resonance as I like a fat sound. Like you say, you can hit the clean channel with boost pedals and it’ll react like a valve amp.

Super vid Adam. But what is procedure if you already have a midi track full of all the drums and you want to split them into their respective individual tracks. I guess you could copy/paste each drum pattern line from the midi editor, but that would/could take a lot of time and also be very prone to error. So is there a better way or maybe a plugin to do this separation of an existing midi drum track. Thks for tutorials, about a week into Reaper now, nearly gave up a few times but I am still here, coming from being a very occasional user of Cakewalk which is now no longer free as from now, and with the plethora of DAW's out there I somehow latched on to trying Reaper, so will be watching more of your vids if I do stick with the quirks it has. Kind Rgds. Keep up the good work.

Sounds great here! Question though, did you notice any problem with the lack of a presence control? Is the amp inherently dark or it's bright enough to cut through a band mix? I'm debating between this one of the Kraken Mk2 ;) I love that this one has 4 channels, but on the other hand the Kraken Mk2 has a presence knob, a presence switch and also a focus switch which tighten the bass.

  • @adams2531

Yo I've migrated over from Ableton. I'm manually programming a drum track and every time I click to lay down MIDI triggers this bloody blue marker sets itself to where I've been clicking. And then instead of playing from the beginning of the loop when I press play it starts from the blue marker. It's really annoying and I cannot see a point to it. What the hell is it and how do I use it/get rid of it???
